J McDonald florist has been an established flower business within the Newtownards community for over 70 years. The current owner Carol who worked for the McDonald family for over 21 years and Elizabeth’s, Bangor before that (not giving away her age) bought over the business in May 2005 after the McDonald family wanted to retire. Since taking over the business Carol has transformed it to the vibrant, friendly and knowledgeable flower business it is today.
McDonald’s Florist pride themselves on freshness, buying directly from local growers, within 1 mile from the shop, this means some of our stock is cut fresh every morning then delivered directly to our shop, Lillie’s, Scented stock, Chrysanths,Tulips,Daffodils all when in season and all seasonal bedding plants, the rest of our stock comes directly from our wholesalers who deliver everyday ensuring our customers get only the freshest and top quality flowers.
Their motto is ‘buy little and often to ensure quality and freshness’. Their staff team, from Saturday girl to their established full-time staff have a collective experience of over 100 years, not many flowers shops can say that. Peninsula Care have always been more than impressed with McDonald’s Florist over the years when we have ordered beautiful hand tied bouquets for birthday surprises for our office staff and of course those we are able to present during our Heart of Peninsula Care Awards Ceremony.
