Kimberley registered with Peninsula in September 2013 as a second job. She initially joined to work part time with our agency, and was extremely popular with a range of clients including Nursing Homes, Residential Homes, and Learning Difficulty Units.

Some people search for years for a job that they enjoy, and that gives them a sense of satisfaction. Most never find it, but Kimberley was lucky enough to fall into a job she loves. Made redundant from her job in retail in 2004, she was given a number for a Care company and hasn’t looked back since. The flexibility of agency work with Peninsula suited Kimberley perfectly as she worked a variety of shifts with her other employer. Coming from a Community Care background, Kimberley was always willing to pick up shifts in our Community Care department when she could.

Peninsula Care always try to reward our hard working staff who show a real enthusiasm for care, and in the case of Kimberley we were delighted to be able to offer her a full time contract where she is now able to work in the community setting she loves, as well as pick up additional agency shifts as and when she wants. One of the problems facing Kimberley was her access to a car, she previously had shared use of one, and so was not available as much as she would have liked. In keeping with our efforts to reward those who share our values, Peninsula were able to source and buy a company car for Kimberley to use for personal use, as well as work use.

Kimberley’s favourite part of care work is working with the elderly. She said, “Some of the stories you hear are amazing, and funny too. Younger people think they know it all but it’s all been done before. Last year I finished my QCF Level 2 in Health & Social Care, and hope to complete further qualifications in the near future in order to progress in my career.” “My least favourite part of the job would be the early mornings, but saying that, as soon as I arrive at my first call each morning I am reminded that the early starts are worth it, when I see the smile on the service users faces, and share some stories with them. Apart from the odd early morning I really love my job, and I love helping people. It is great to see the real difference it makes to someone’s day, and their lives as a whole.
