Director of Peninsula Care, Jonny Cook commented “I am extremely happy that we have been awarded the opportunity to assist in staffing our local hospitals, I know only too well at times that our wards are extremely busy so I am pleased some of our excellent nurses will be able to lend a much needed helping hand. Our Nurses have all the necessary training and skills they need and have great support from their Manager Tiago.”

If you wish to join our Nursing team to work in our hospitals we would love to hear from you!

As we deal with the daily pressures of COVID19 we are aiming to implement the governments advice on social distancing as best as possible. We have therefore taken the decision to close our office to staff and visitors unless by appointment only. Our office team are still working despite our closure and we would like to share the following information for our staff team and visitors.

Community Carers requiring PPE or Care Record Sheets please alert the office team you are here by knocking on reception window or by calling 02891 828921. We will then meet you at the wheelchair entrance at the side of the building.

Agency staff requiring timesheets should request these to be posted or emailed to print at home. If you have none, please alert the office team you are here by knocking on reception window or by calling 02891 828921. We will then meet you at the wheelchair entrance at the side of the building.

If reporting concerns about a service user, please contact the office on 02891 828921.

If you are a relative and need to speak to someone about a loved ones care please contact us by telephoning 02891 828921.

If you need to meet a member of the management team, please ring 02891 828921 to arrange this.

When arriving for an appointment please alert the office team you are here by knocking on reception window or by calling 02891 828921. We will then meet you at the wheelchair entrance at the side of the building.

Face to Face training will no longer take place in large groups, class based activities will continue with a maximum of 3 persons to allow social distancing.

Any general enquiries can be made by emailing info@peninsulacareservices.co.uk

We will continue to work within these guidelines for the next month and review based on any further government advice received. We realise that due to the nature of the work our care and nursing staff are not able to socially distance themselves from our patients and service users and we commend the work you are doing. Always ensure you have the appropriate PPE and continue to wash your hands regularly. We strive to ensure our service and support to both clients and staff has minimised disruption but appeal for patience at this time as we are working in uncertain times and with extreme pressures.

With recent news of business having to close their doors and lay off staff due to the recent COVID-19 Outbreak, we certainly feel for those affected. This is a time of uncertainty for a lot of businesses. We have many vulnerable adults in our society which still need their care packages and there are many more waiting in care homes and hospitals awaiting their move to home with care and support.

With the outbreak developing we find staff having to self-isolate or take time off due to childcare issues with schools being closed, our services are stretched and we don’t want this to have an impact on those we care for.

We therefore wish to extend the opportunity to all those that have faced immediate redundancy due to this outbreak. Have you been a worker in retail, hospitality or even cabin crew with an airline now grounded or dissolved? If so we believe you will have great interpersonal skills and a great work ethic that can be transferred to helping those in need of care at this time. We have full and part time positions available and have sourced extra admin support in our Head Office to help make the recruitment process as smooth and quick as possible. Peninsula Care are offering free police checks which usually would cost £33 to the individual, and all mandatory training will be completed before commencement of employment and paid shadow shifts with our Senior Care Assistant.

For those with no previous experience we are seeking Community Care Workers to provide care to people living in their own homes. Applicants must be able to drive and have access to a care for work purposes. We have an immediate demand in Newtownards, Comber, North Down and the Ards Peninsula.

Our community care team receive weekly pay and are paid at the rates shown below:

Monday -Friday £8.80 per hour

Weekends £9.20 per hour

Mileage paid at a rate of £0.20p per mile.

Have you worked previously in the care sector? Don’t feel “Out of Touch”! We also supply experienced staff to other care facilities such as care homes throughout Northern Ireland with temporary staff. We can provide you with updates in all mandatory training and we are pretty sure being a care worker is like riding a bike, you never forgot those skills.

We are offering immediate interviews, to apply please contact us on 02891828921 to request an application form, these can be posted or emailed to you.

Peninsula Care Service have chosen to support two very different charities for 2020/2021. The charities are NI Transplant Association and Another World Belfast.

We would like to tell you a little about both, we hope as always you can get behind these wonderful, hardworking charities. You can do so by attending our fundraising events and by dropping off donations when you can. We will have many opportunities throughout the year for staff social events involving both charities.

Remember to keep an eye our social media for dates and further information.

The Northern Ireland Transplant Association is a small registered charity which was formed in 1991 to provide information, counselling as well as practical support to organ donors and recipients throughout Northern Ireland. Their primary objectives are to increase organ donation through the promoting of the organ donor register, supporting those affected by organ transplantation and raising funds to help provide practical support to affected families.

NI Transplant Association promote the benefits of organ transplantation services. This will be those awaiting transplant, those recovering from transplant, donor families as well as transplant families.

The charity works hard to raise funds through a variety of events, and we are happy to say this year we have lots of exciting and fulfilled events that you can be part of.

It’s amazing once you start the discussion of organ transplant and donor with people you find out that sadly it’s more common than you’d think. Here at Peninsula two of our own staff have been touched by requiring different transplants. Below is a brief account of their journeys with transplantation.

Glenda

Community Care Worker

Peninsula Care Services

The Northern Ireland Transplant Association has been a lifeline for us as family. When your child is placed on the transplant list, it’s overwhelming and so many questions run through your mind. I met with Erica and Lorraine for a chat, they helped me understand what it was like to be waiting on a transplant and what lay ahead for us, no question was ever wrong to ask and helped me prepare with stories of their own journeys. When things got tough, they were always on the end of the phone just to listen. Dylan finally had his transplant in October 2019, they provided me with financial assistance to help with costs of hospital stay and being away from home which is a big worry at times. On the bad days they were at the end of the phone just to talk things through and make sure we never felt alone and understood what we were going through was all ok. The work this charity does is invaluable, the education and awareness of organ donation was something I had never thought of until it happened to us.

Josh

Son of Homecare Assistant Manager

Peninsula Care Services

At 17 years old Josh was diagnosed with Keratoconus, a degenerative disease causing the cornea to thin and drastically distort the vision. In Josh’s case the Keratoconus progressed very rapidly in his left eye and glasses didn’t work any longer, needing to change his prescription every 6 months. He moved on to contact lenses, however they proved difficult to wear and hard to tolerate-even the most expensive at £100 a pair. They caused abrasions and scratches to his cornea. At one-point Josh was finding it difficult to see his hand in front of him and to read a book he needed to hold it at the bridge of his nose.

He had surgery in 2015 on his ‘good’ right eye to prevent the Keratoconus from progressing. Josh later had a transplant in his left eye after having a bad abrasion and being marked as urgent. He waited 9 months for this surgery and reported the healing process to be very long and only got his first set of glasses 10 months after the surgery. Josh reports that he feels extremely lucky on his journey. He is aware that he may need another transplant in years to come, however no longer feels held back by the disease. Josh is thankful for so many things, some of them small like being able to read the football score on the Tv screen to bigger things like the confidence and stability that he now has in his life thanks to the transplant.

He has said “Every single day I am so thankful for the life that I now have through a hero’s simple act of kindness and selflessness”.

Josh has been spreading the word on organ donation by sharing his story and carrying out informative talks. Josh goes on to say “Organ donation is an amazing thing and we all could save or improve up to 9 lives. It takes 2 minutes to sign up and the results of your kindness are truly life changing”.

To launch our partnership with N.I Transplant Association we held a Coffee morning on February 21st, at which we raised £400! A great morning enjoyed by all. Tea, cupcakes and lots of prizes were won.

November 8th 2019 saw Health Care Assistant Janice McKay, pick up the highest accolade at the Heart of Peninsula Care Awards.

Janice earlier that evening won the category of Client Choice Award having been nominated by Manager and staff at Blair Lodge Residential Home, Bangor. Having read through all nominations the judging panel awarded Janice with the Overall Heart of Peninsula Care.

Janice has been working in care for now 25 years which started back when she cared for her grandmother, in doing this she realised she could help others and bring comfort to those in their final days. As an employee for over 3 years, having joined the Agency in the role of Health Care Assistant, she joined Peninsula Care as the company was recommended by friends. “They are great to work for with the flexibility in her hours which I can work around being a granny myself. They are very supportive, and I feel I am a valued member of the team” she commented.

In each of her 3 years of service she has been nominated for Client Choice every year which only shows the hard work and dedication Janice puts into her job.

After the awards we caught up with Janice to find out how it feels to win Peninsula Care’s highest accolade. Janice commented:

“I feel very humbled winning the overall award, especially knowing there are so many deserving winners who do similar roles as myself. I also feel very proud that I was chosen, and I am glad I followed my career path in care. I enjoy the interaction with clients, chatting to them and helping to provide care in a dignified way. To me, clients feel like part of the family.”

Director of Peninsula Care Jonny Cook stated:

“I am very proud to call Janice one of my valued and hard-working team. She is a very caring individual and has been a huge asset to our team. Janice lives and breathes the ethos of the organisation that caring is everything to us every day. I feel the judges made the right decision in awarding her the title of being the Heart of Peninsula Care. I know Janice will continue to be part of the Peninsula Care journey in the years to come.”

Janice scoops not only a beautiful trophy but also tickets to Nathan Carter’s Christmas concert and £250 cash.
